Rig Rebuild: Part 1

Well, the time has come to make changes for next season. We have decided to get rid of the YJ tub in favor of full skins. This will allow us to keep the rig looking newer since the skins can be changed as often as needed. The plan is to build an entirely new cage. To do this we removed the entire body and current cage and set them aside. We didn't want to let them get to far away for now since we want the new body to resemble the old one(only without the dents and dings). So we sat it to the side so we could get measurements from it when it was time to build the new cage.

The new design will consist of a narrowed TJ hood, grill and cowl. These will be made of fiberglass so they will be light. We would like to cover the sides with Lexan instead of metal. This will allow a better looking finish plus we may be able to make the passenger side see-thru. We are also going to get the rig up to the new UROC specs.

Here is the rolling chassis without the body and cage. Turns out this will be a great chance to clean up the rig a little better and check things that we couldn't see before. Of course it will make installing an Atlas easier. Yeah we finally pulled enough money together to get an Atlas.

Here we have the tub pulled off so we can see the chassis much better. The front part of the cage that ties into the suspension will be left as is. After all, the rig works great so we don't want to change the setup any more than we have to.

This is a little better photo of the chassis without the body and cage. Now comes the hard part... putting it all back together and making it look like something.

There are plans to start on a Moon Buggy type Unlimited rig for future use, so check back for updates and don't miss out.
